Social networking. The real kind.
Technology is wonderful.
Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have received the recent invitation to the Dallas Ad League’s Happy Hour where getting together is “Still a great social networking phenomenon.”
That’s really what it’s all about, isn’t it? Social networking with people. In person. The kind that involves chips and salsa. Margaritas. And face-to-face conversation.
I’m LinkedIn. I’ve attempted to Twitter. But I believe I’ll make more of an effort to network, socially, where the replies are instantaneous, and a greeting is a smile and a handshake.
The chips and salsa thing isn’t bad, either.

I've been looking at the pros and cons of this "latest" media dynamo and have come to several conclusions:
1) It's just another tool.
2) For creating a buzz, it's great, but it's also very short lived.
3) Be VERY careful what you say and post.
4) Anonymity seems to be where the cultural mind-set is today. Why say something good when it's easier to say something bad. SCAREY!!!
5) It's huge time bandit! If you want to waste time, get "nothing" accomplished and spend all your time defending your position... blog, twitter, FB... it's the ultimate land-fill of productive time!
6) Personally more interested in technologies that'll actually change the world... like "cloud computing", "open source", and "quantum computing". Is social media really changing the world for the better? It's hard to tell if there's any real benefit.
I still prefer a firm hand shake and some nice one-on-one face time. "Now what are you selling?" Let's hope we never forget how it's really done! 2¢
